The Forum Difference
Our difference
Forum Medical Group's medical services are overseen by Occupational Physicians (Specialist workplace Doctors) not everyday general practitioners. ( family doctor ). Forum Medical Group has full accreditation as a training practice from the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Physicians.
What is an Occupational Physician
An Occupational Physician is a work place medicine Doctor who has been trained to the level of Specialist. Occupational Physicians advise people on how their work can affect their health and how their health can affect their ability to work safely. This is the basis for a quality pre-employment medical (PEM). They are experts on injury management and have all the skills and experience necessary to get injured workers safely back to their jobs.
They hold a Fellowship with the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine within the Royal Australasian College of Physicians which requires years of additional training after they have obtained their degree as a Doctor.
Occupational Health Providers
Unfortunately, there are some doctors who call themselves Occupational Physicians or generalist doctors (GPs) who are not qualified through the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine that seek to provide advice and assessment on PEMs and injury management. Whilst this is not against the law, it is unfortunately misleading. It also places them and those who rely on their advice in a precarious position in that the advice provided and relied upon is unqualified and not backed up by formal training and continuing professional development that is required for Occupational Physicians.
There are an increasing number of medical providers claiming they provide Occupational medicine services or that they are work place health specialists, unfortunately if they don't have an Occupational Physician they can only provide the level of service and knowledge equal to that of your family Doctor.
