MRO Services
Forum Medical Group can provide MROs (Medical Review Officer) services for drug and alcohol testing. MROs are licensed physicians who are responsible for receiving and reviewing the laboratory results of a client’s drug and alcohol testing program, and then providing medical explanations for certain drug test results.
Drug and Alcohol Validation:
Many industries require an MRO to validate a drug and alcohol test when an unknown or illicit substance has been detected. This validation is required after the substance has been confirmed by laboratory testing (via LCMS) and there is a need to identify whether the result was due to the use of an illicit substance, prescription medication or the use of medication in an illicit manner. In addition to this, the MRO will undertake an assessment of the testing procedures to ensure they are consistent with Australian Standards (AS/NZS 4380:2008). Our MROs hold Australian and international qualifications in substance identification and testing procedures.
Instant Assessments – Fitness for Duty:
MROs can identify if prescription drugs or faulty testing procedures have influenced the result of a worker’s drug and alcohol test. Using specialised knowledge of the use of prescription drugs, the pharmacology and toxicology of illicit drugs and testing procedures, the MRO will determine if the worker can safely return to work without risk to themselves or others.
